I've been thinking about the differences between how I feel now, and how I felt in 2004. My feelings are different this time and, I think, for several reasons.<br /><br />2004 will always be the most intense feeling for me and for most Red Sox fans. It was, for multiple generations, the First Time. Nothing can ever match that feeling, even a dominating string of playoff successes.<br /><br />2004 was really about beating the Yankees in the ALCS. The entire saga of that series, the way they came back from the 3-0 deficit and the fact that it was the YANKEES was the climax of that year's run. The World Series, for me at least, was somewhat anti-climactic<br /><br />2007, despite the caveats drawn from the above, is still supremely satisfying. What makes this season seem special to me is not what happened on the field, but that my son, who is now 8, has really 'gotten in' to baseball. I coached his Little League team (machine pitch) this past spring, and assisted with his fall team.
